CSN TERMINAL AT ITAGUAI SUFFERS INTERDICTION

News

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This morning of April 16th, Itaguai´s Mayor´s Office  through their environmental department has determined the interdiction of CSN TERMINAL as well as the container terminal named SEPETIBA TECON, alleging these two facilities have their environmental licenses expired, and in special CSN facilities are being accused of throwing/discarding residues of ores directly into bay waters, with no treatment at all.

The Secretary of Environmental Affairs of Itaguai´s municipality is pushing the facility to stop all operations, whilst the mining company involved alleges the whole matter to be a misunderstanding of Mayor´s House, and that their environmental licenses are good and being renewed, and they state that not even a kilo of ore residues has lacked proper treatment, as well as the company has never thrown/discharged anything on bay waters.

Presently, MV SAN FRANCISCO is alongside completing the loading of Iron Ore and expected to complete for sailing on/abt evening/night, and right after her clearing the berth, MV KORYU 8 is expected to berth for a 24 hr shipment of Iron Ore as well. Terminal´s administration says their premises are licensed and have no faults, and have asked State Environmental Authority to intervene, inclusively threatening to suit Municipality of Itaguai.
